Seven summers ago, or so

… the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean collection had hit the scene 🙂

In honour of the advent around that period of my burgeoning interest in all things varnish, here’s a comparison series of each member of the POTC collex, in numerical order.

First up, Skull & Glossbones (NL P13)

Nubar Faded Putty, Fall 2011
SH CSM 865 Winter Sky, Fall 2015
OPI Skull & Glossbones, POTC 2011
China Glaze The Giver Five Rules, Fall 2014
Orly Highlight, Smoky 2014

All swatches, three coats

I’ve not been posting much for several logistical reasons: limited storage (nor do I intend to renew my pricey plan this August), lack of speed and bandwidth (images take forever to upload, then when a post is completed, I’m not able to see the entire thing until my plan resets around the beginning of each month and only lasts a few days at sufficient speed to load every image).

My way around this until mid-August (after that, I’ll likely just update pages and add more lists, which are mainly for my personal use when out shopping so I know what I’ve already purchased) will be to limit the images in and length of each post, and compose solely on my iPad.

In short, no fun 😦

Before then, however, I do intend to compare the entire POTC collection in individual posts, and then some 🙂

Shimmy-shimmy boom-boom stunners, part II of II

Summer’s on her sunshiny way, café patrons!

That means a Summer Deluxe Edition of the Multichrome Comparison Library is in short order.

Put on a hat + sunglasses, grab your parasol + an outdoor table with a refreshing beverage of your choice, and relax + enjoy these little bottles as much as I delighted in gathering + posing them for you 🙂

Rita is also greener than she appears here.

The aforementioned, with Orly Teal Unreal tacked onto the end.  Orly is indeed greener in real life, as well.

Not Sally Girl Chillax – she does lean blue.  Must be chiquita pero picosa — tiny, but influencing the big ‘uns nearby

L. A. Colors Color Craze Jungle Fever, Colorama Africa a Vista Mar Sem Fim, Essence C&G Trust in Fashion

Jungle Fever holds a special place in my heart due to unusual immense self-control in restraining myself from buying her on repeated trips to an Asian grocery store.  She was less than $1 USD, but in those lean days of 2012, I had very little money for extras.  Thus, I always consider her fondly.  🙂

Sinful Colors Last Chance, Catrice Hugo Moss

Not sure about Last Chance (this and SC Envy live in the varnish warehouse untried), but Hugo Moss seems to be a great economical alternative to NARS Zulu.

P.S.  I gave both Zulu and Galion away untried.

P.P.S.  Nail wheels are in short supply at the shops these days!

Box of bonbons, part one

Intended for Valentine’s Day, so a little overdue…

Meanwhile, lunch is served at the café, before we partake in some dessert-like varnishes!

I was absolutely smitten by these two SH CSM varnishes from the new NYFW collection.

When I brought them home together last week, I had no idea they would be so close to OPI and Essie…

Ugh, I’m stuffed!

This post took forever (way past Valentine’s Day, yes?) to put together, and the display of sweets isn’t over yet — I omitted Essie Cashmere Matte Wrap Me Up from the Vanilla Buttercream lineup, so will include her in part two, where I’ll swatch and compare the assortments above.

The Skinfood trio set also deserves its own post and commentary — después de haberme desempalagado (after getting rid of this sickeningly sweet feeling). 🙂

Love,

Old multichrome spam

I took these photos back in early summer 2012. The majority of the varnishes have been traded; some whose names I cannot remember. What I do remember is the feeling of being overwhelmed by all of the bottles on my desk. Absolutely minimal in comparison to what I’m currently contending with… and I keep adding more!

Please, if you know the names of any of the anonymous varnishes, pray tell!

P1020220

Nina Ultra Pro Molten Lava, Nubar Shock Sonic Sunset, Crystal Mesmerizing (these last two I have hung onto for sentimental reasons, as they were a gift from kimbuyah on MUA)

P1020219

P1020215

This Sinful had some catchy name, reason I bought it from cherryculture… actually I bought two and gave them both away.

Catrice Clay-ton My Hero, wish I had never swapped this away

Finger Paints Warm He-Art-ed

P1020216

These definitely aren’t multchromes; more of a complex shimmer in a muddy base… but here they are anyhow.

P1020221

Orly Fifty-Four, OPI that I have since swapped away.  Name, anyone?

P1020222

P1020225

OPI I’m a Princess, You’re Not!

P1020224

OPI Rent, Thoroughly Modern Millie… or the other way around, Anna Sui 32C, 235

P1020223

P1020218

Scherer Chameleon Corona (I think…), OPI Movin’ Out and ???

P1020217

And yes, that mini Max Factor in the background *is* Fantasy Fire, which I gave to alelvi123 before I could show her off here.

PFF Series: Lilac & Berry Holos

Image

Golden Rose 109 – cowlicky brush and formula this go-round. Needed multiple coats to reach its potential. Scattered subtle holo that leans more purple than Color Club Fashion Addict. Golden Rose used to be my pet brand for subtle holos; this one didn’t make the cut…

Color Club Fashion Addict – long spindly brush making for streaks and thin application. Big disappointment, although it does grant you a linear holo for your trouble.

Nubar Treasure – four coats to reach its final glory, but they were a smooth, buttery pleasure, treasure, to apply. More raspberry than Teeez Outta Control. Now I know why they named it this; truly earned its stripes all round.

Teeez Outta Control – a one-coater, but I used two. Second coat totally superfluous, but makes more of a sparkly blueberry-grape impression. This has larger scattered holo particles than Treasure, thus flashier. Brush is of a just-right trim and stiffness, making for phenomenal application. I feel more inclined to put it on my toes, but that would be a waste of a great color and formula…

Catrice Dirty Berry remains my number one in the purple holo department.  It’s the only holo I wear as a full manicure and am not tempted to remove immediately due to self-consciousness…

Fashion Addict is on my index. Streakfest 2012, so I gave you blurred photos to disguise the misery…
